Holbox is part of the Yum Balam Wildlife Preserve, which allows for observation of many rare and endangered aquatic bird species, a bird watchers paradise! The Pink Flamingo has found Holbox to be a favorite summer retreat.

A testament to how well Holbox has managed the preserve in what has now become an annual event is the summer visit paid to Holbox by a large group of whale sharks.
